What ages can attend Camp Acorn?
Camp Acorn is designed for children ages 6 to 12.
What are camp hours?
Camp runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with before and after care available.
Before Care: 8:00-9:00am
After Care: 4:00-5:30pm
*Extended care must be purchased in advance and space is limited
What is a trauma-informed camp?
A trauma-informed approach to summer camp focuses on empathetic behaviour management and supportive practices for all children. Ratios tend to be slightly lower, and licensed therapists may be involved.
What is your camper-to-staff ratio?
Camp Acorn maintains an 8:1 ratio to ensure safety and supervision of all campers. Ratios may vary depending on activities and pools set their own mandatory ratios.
What should I pack for camp?
- Reusable water bottle
- Hat
- Sunscreen
- Change of clothes (if you believe your child may need them)
- Healthy, litter less lunch
- 2 snacks per day
- Camp Acorn shirt (Thursday only)
- Swimsuit & towel (Friday only)
What does a typical day at camp look like?
Camp Acorn runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each day includes activity blocks focused on arts & crafts, science, and active games. A unique feature of Camp Acorn is our daily “Camper’s Choice” block, where campers can choose their preferred activity for 30 minutes after lunch. Campers also receive two snack breaks and a 30-minute lunch each day. Weekly field trips typically take place on Thursdays, and Fun Friday lunches include either a BBQ or pizza, depending on the site.
Do staff receive specialized training? Are they certified in CPR/First Aid?
All Camp Acorn staff are CPR-C/First Aid certified and hold a valid vulnerable sector police check. Staff also obtain HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development certification. Additional training may cover behaviour management, trauma-informed care, risk management, inclusion, conflict resolution, and child development principles.

Yes. Subsidies, payment plans, and camperships may be available. Approval is required and funding is limited. If you are interested, please contact the camp team at camp@kristenfrenchcacn.org before completing registration.
